Reimagining the Canon with Patricia Allison and Jeff Ho

By March 15, 2022 March 19th, 2022 blog
a blue sky with white clouds. there is a twisted bright blue monkey bars cutting through the sky. A while border and the title "The Playground"

What are the stories you wish to write? What myths in the world do you hope to tackle, or challenge, or celebrate? What is the story inside of you, as a performer, deviser, designer, whatever path you tread, that you want to share? How do we collide the diversity of truths in our world into compelling, intimate, powerful theatre?

Shakespeare in the Ruff is excited to welcome you to our Reimagining the Canon workshop – led by Patricia Allison and Jeff Ho.  This four-day workshop is an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and create through the lens of adaptation. Join us through a series of physical and playwriting explorations, practical conversations around the adaptation process, and around new play development processes in the country. By collaborating in a wholistic space we will look at challenging what we know, what we expect, and what we wish to see change in conversations around classical European “canonical” works (Shakespeare, the Greeks, etc etc). From bristling physical exercises, to diving into the messiness of new writing, to that jolt of sharing new creations, join us as we create, laugh, share, and connect over the possibilities of adaptation.

Jeff Ho

Jeff loves his little niece who just turned two. He also has a huge penchant for his adopted cats; Bugs and Sherlock. He has been with the love of his life for 10 years now, and recently got engaged.  Jeff also loves to cook as well as tasting foods from literally anywhere. He has an unquenchable curiosity about the history of foods. When winding down, Jeff loves nothing more than to curl up on the sofa with his partner and cats, and watch horror movies. He’s written a few plays, and is absolutely smitten with creation, and with supporting writers through dramaturgy and education.

Patricia Allison

Patricia lives inside a body that can be difficult sometimes, but she loves it unconditionally anyway. She enjoys a really good lay down on the couch and spent most of her pandemic catching up on movies and tv shows. If prompted, she will rant about Marvel Avenger movies for hours. Recently, she has enjoyed watching Turning Red and finally seeing Reservation Dogs (must see!). She studied how to dance properly for a while and then focused on how to dance improperly. She balters through life reading and telling stories. She lives with her hilarious wife and two birds.
