Shakespeare in the Ruff brings one of Shakespeare’s most transformative plays, The Winter’s Tale, to Withrow Park. Moving from darkness to light, The Winter’s Tale magically explores forgiveness, repentance, and how we come together.
Bring a picnic, meet a neighbour, and experience a summer’s night between the trees and beneath the stars.

About Director Sarah Kitz
Sarah is over the moon to be spending the summer working with Shakespeare in the Ruff, on the beautiful and mysterious Winter’s Tale.
Sarah Kitz is a director, creator, coach and performer. As a director she has participated in the Michael Langham Workshop in Directing at Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival’s Neil Munro Intern Directors Project, and is a member of Directors Lab North in participation with Lincoln Centre. She has worked at Shakespeare In The Ruins, Tarragon Theatre, Passe Muraille, Crow’s Theatre, Canadian Stage, Next Stage Festival, SummerWorks, Pandemic Theatre, The Canadian Music Theatre Project, and is extensively involved in new play development with playwrights. She’s mentored with Paprika Festival and has a long term relationship with the AMY Project, which supports the creative trajectories of young women and non-binary youth in Toronto through arts mentorship. In 2017 Sarah was awarded Crow’s Theatre’s RBC Emerging Director Prize. As an actor, Sarah is a graduate of the Stratford Birmingham Conservatory, was a Stratford company member, and has acted across Canada. Most recently she played Liza in Liza Balkan’s Out The Window, a production in partnership between Luminato Festival and The Theatre Centre, and Jordan in Darrah Teitel’s Behaviour at Great Canadian Theatre Company, in partnership with SpiderWebShow and Playwrights Workshop Montreal. To date, Sarah’s twin focus lies in re-envisioning classical works for contemporary interpretation, and in new creation.
