Otîhêw (2022)

Created by PJ Prudat

Reimagining Shakespeare’s Othello, Otîhêw tells the story of an affluent Indigenous woman bound in the historical “custom-of-the-country” to Desmond, a fur-trader employed by the imperial trading and trafficking institution that drove colonization over sovereign Indigenous lands.

Special note: Due unforeseen complications during the rehearsal of this piece the full production was unable to move into performances. As an alternative, Ruff offered a beautiful reading style of performance presented by playwright PJ Prudat, along with actors B’atz’ Recinos and Gloria Mampuya, and with live music by Alejandra Nuñez. Ultimately, a unique and intimate sharing of storytelling at it’s finest!
